Abstract

The water charges movement showedthat working class communities didn’t needa revolutionary party to block water meters,to get out on the streets in their hundreds ofthousands and to inflict a serious defeat onthe government.

It is the same story in other countries. In Spain people didn’t need a party to occupysquares in their millions and in Egyptin 2011 they didn’t need a party to drivethe police off the streets, defeat the counterrevolutionarybaltagiya (hired thugs) andbring down a dictator. In France today noone needs a revolutionary party to mountmass strikes and street protests, take on thebrutal CRS riot cops and hold exciting street debates.
